According to the latest BARC data, Sony TV’s new primetime weekend show, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, which was launched on April 23 has taken the 9pm slot up by 5 times to 9230 impressions. The opening weekend recorded an average of 8943 impressions.kapil-Sharma-sony tv live

Ever since Sony TV announced their new primetime weekend show with the comedian, following his unceremonious exit from Colors last year, all eyes have been on the launch. The channel has been working on strengthening its dismal BARC ratings with ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.

To catch up on its weekend ratings, Colors, on the other hand, introduced a new format of ‘Comedy Nights’ with actor Krushna Abhishek called ‘Comedy Nights Live’ on January 31. The show started off well, but the last few weeks don’t seem to be doing very well, the show had just 5074 impressions on April 17 according to BARC.

Around the launch of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, the competition heated up with Colors scraping ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’ and premiering Bollywood movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’ at 9pm. It later teamed this comedy show with ‘Comedy Nights Live’ on April 24 which managed 5,573 impressions. According to media-tech start up Zapr, the show had a unique reach of 54 million viewers while ‘Bajirao Mastani’ attracted 44 million viewers.

Looking at a 15-minute slot-wise analysis made by Zapr, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ saw a steady viewership, making the highest touch during the 9:30– 9:45 pm with 28 million people watching the show. Statewise, Uttar Pradesh claimed the top position with a share of 14.7% followed by Maharashtra at 13.03%
